Sell Products Online: #3- Etsy

Etsy is one of the best places to go and sell your handmade items online. That is the place where people know to go for handmade products. They don’t want items that are manufactured. They want items from people like us. Also, they want the originality, the uniqueness, somebody taking the time, the love and putting it all into this piece.

Etsy competes with brands like Shopify, Big Cartel, and Amazon Handmade, but has carved out a corner of the market thanks to a seller pool that’s over 80% women (Business Insider)

On Etsy, they have currently 72 million items for sale which is a lot. There are 3.1 million active sellers and they have 60.3 million active buyers. There is no monthly fee associated with the Etsy account. However, there is a 20-cent listing fee for each item that you put in your shop. Also, there’s a five percent transaction fee when you sell the item.

4- Amazon Handmade

If you did not know, Amazon has a handmade section. So, this is something that you will have to apply for. There’s an application that you will have to fill out and you will have to be approved in order for you to have a shop on Amazon Handmade.

What they would do is a short application, and what you would do is just share some of the products that you would like to sell online because they want to know the quality of it. Also, Amazon Handmade wants you to write up the process and how you make the items that you are planning to sell.

Amazon Handmade allows you to sell your handcrafted products to customers around the world. Amazon uses an application process to screen new sellers for the Handmade category, to ensure that customers are able to buy with confidence. (Amazon)

As well as they want to see the area where you make your items. Also, they just want to know that you’re legit and that you are actually making the product and not someone else. You do not have to pay a monthly fee with Amazon handmade. However, there is a 15 referral fee that is taken out from the sale price. So, that is taken out before the money goes into your account.

You might think that’s a negative thing but you can just incorporate that cost into your price. That way you’re covering your fees. Everything that you have put into selling this item, you just put it in your sale price and you don’t have to worry about that.

We know that Amazon is a very popular website. They have 150.6 million buyers daily on their website. So, you will get exposure if you have an Amazon handmade account.

5- Facebook

There are several ways to sell on Facebook. There’s the Facebook Marketplace, which is kind of like eBay or Craigslist. Lots of people out there selling you stuff and it’s not a great place to set up a branded veteran store. This will be a long-term thing for you.

They have Facebook groups and they have a unique business model where they sell one-of-a-kind products. That’s why they have limited quantities and have released their product collections in batches.
They also publish their product collections every few weeks.

Therefore, their products are not always available for sale. This method works especially well if you sell something that people like to buy more than once, or in other words, they like to collect. Jewelry is a good example.

If you sell something where the customer only needs one of the similar engagement rings, it may not work for you either. That’s why they created Facebook groups and the way it works is if you want to see what’s for sale when new things come out you have to join the group.

It’s a great way to reach a small group of people who are really ready to buy from you. You have a responsibility to keep your group busy even when you’re not selling anything. So when you have something for sale, your members will see your sales posts because your group is not busy, no one will see your post when you have something for sale.

Facebook Marketplace

Facebook groups are a pretty close ecosystem. You require people not only to have a Facebook account but also to join your group in order to shop from you. That’s a lot of steps you can’t take advantage of when a complete stranger finds your products and makes impulsive purchases from your website.

What if Facebook groups weren’t set up for that, or if someone is looking for a special gift for a family or friend? They won’t join a Facebook group and be part of something like that just to get a one-time gift.
Facebook groups are more convenient for people who buy things for themselves or buy them as gifts, but they think of people who share the same tastes.

Finally, there are Facebook pages along with Facebook. There are several ways to do this. You can sell on your Page just as you would in a group, and this will likely be with comment sales. Also, you can put a picture of the product you sell, write a description, and ask those who want to buy it to comment on the post.

Then you need to send them a private message with a PayPal invoice link. So, it’s a pretty manual process, but there are apps you can use to automate it. With a Facebook page, you can also sync your products with your Facebook page if you have a Shopify store. So, you have a section on your page that shows your Shopify products for sale. People can buy items directly from Facebook without leaving the platform.
